Hello again,
Thank you for stopping by. Today I want to share with you these really cute Lemon Stress Balls.
I found this pattern on the CRAFT YARN COUNCIL‘s web site. You can get both the knitted and crocheted patterns here, Lemon crochet pattern, Lemon knitted pattern.
These “Stress Balls” are designed by Twinkie Chan. The lemons were originally designed for the Craft Yarn Council for stress month in 2014.
When life gets hectic and busy, we tend to start getting stressed out, way more than we would like to be. There are some many things that can cause stress in our lives, anything from our jobs, to kids, traffic… the list can go on. Being stressed soon effects our health. Many times in ways we don’t even see, blood pressure, depression, and wearing our immune system down just to name a few. Science has proven time and time again the affects that stress has on the body.
But you don’t have to always go to the gym (I’m sure it wouldn’t do me any harm tho… 😉 ) to start relieving your stress. There are multiple studies done to show what benefits Knitting and Crocheting can have on a person, especially healing benefits.
Using both your hands is also using both sides of your brain. Helping with your dexterity. It’s using more of your brain than just sitting and watching tv, or playing games on the computer. It’s been shown to help the older generation to increase their chances of not loosing their memory, or not getting dementia. You are also keeping your hands busy, (I like to snack at night) I don’t eat as much when I crochet in the evenings, creating, and completing a project. The younger generation learns to concentrate, to increase their dexterity too, and feel good about themselves when they can accomplish and complete their projects. They learn a sense of pride for themselves. That’s a hard lesson to teach.
They’ve done study’s at many places like the Mayo Clinic, and Georgetown University Hospital, and The British Journal of Occupational Therapy. The Harvard Medical School study found that the repetitive motion and focus that is used from doing needle work (crochet, knit, embroidery) brings out a very calming almost meditative like state that will cause your heart rate to drop and your blood pressure to fall.
There are many more wonderful reasons why you should crochet or knit. You can go onto the CYC‘s site and read a lot more about the health benefits for Crocheting and Knitting.
Please feel free to drop me a note and let me know why you like to crochet or knit! I look forward to hearing from you. Until then.
Smile and Make Someone Happy!
